The Thoughtful Night Market// Summer Edit 2018 - what to expect.

June 11, 2018

It is now less than a week until we host our second 'The Thoughtful Night Market' in collaboration with Thought Foundation.  We are so excited to bring you this night out with a difference.  We've had lots of questions about the event so let us give you the low down of what to expect.

Artisan Stalls

We have been super lucky since starting The Crafthood to collaborate and meet so many amazing creatives; some of those are joining us to provide a gorgeous selection and range of stalls at the market. You can scroll through this gallery to see some of what you can expect.

Workshops & Masterclasses

Across the evening - Brain Space - Thought Foundation's workshop room will be in full use with a range of great activities for you to get involved in. There'll be Gin Masterclasses run by event sponsors, Durham Distillery, at 6pm and 9pm.  Learn the history of gin, how it's made and more importantly taste all of the gin Durham Distillery has to offer!

A Summer Floral Wreath workshop will be on offer led by Fiona from Greenwolds. The wreaths include a succulent or airplant so even once your wreath is past its best you will have a unique houseplant to keep.  Advance booking for this workshop is now sold out but there will be a few spaces available to sign up to on the night.  Greenwoods will also have a stall catering to all your green-fingered needs.

We'll be running a   hand knitted necklace workshop - you can join us to create your very own eco-chic statement necklace.  No experience is required. We can teach you to finger knit these super wearable t-shirt yarn beauties. For those of you who are already knitters, there are other options also available. We have a gorgeous array of yarns for you to choose from too. If you'd rather just buy one that we have made, we have that sorted too and have been busy knitting up a stylish storm in preparation for the night.

These workshops are ticketed as numbers are limited. The price of the ticket includes entry into the market.  There will be some spaces available for sign up on the night for those people who are not able to commit to advance booking.  To sign up on the night, head to the Brain Space workshop room (located at the back of Thought Foundation near the bar) a sign up sheet will be available in the room, cash or card payment will be accepted.  Places can be purchased on a first come, first served basis.

Interactive Offerings

We are  lucky to have Katie Chappell join us.  Katie is an illustrator living in Berwick, she recently completed her Masters in Illustration from Edinburgh College of Art.  On the night Katie is offering LIVE ILLUSTRATIONS so either bring along a photo or sit for Katie and let her do her thing!  For £10-20 you'll get to take away your own gorgeous piece of art from this clever lady.

Sophy Nixon is an illustrator from County Durham that specialises in pet portraits. Sophy's instagram account is well worth a look - even just to see her gorgeous pooch Claude in his birthday hat!  Claude is the inspiration for much of Sophy's work and she will be demonstrating her skills with live sketch-a-pet.  Bring along a photo of your pet and let Sophie get to work.

Cat Moore Printmaker is offering the opportunity to print your own wrapping paper on her stall.  You will use blocks made by Cat and produce a bespoke piece of wrap - perfect for all the goodies you can buy at the event.  Perfect timing Father's Day or any summer birthdays you have coming up to add a unique & personal touch for the special people in your life.

Alex from Barsitocracy will be offering coffee tasters and demos of parts of the courses they run. Brinkburn St Brewery will have beer tasters and canapés up for grabs. Ugly Duckling will also be providing samples of their gorgeous goodies.  Durham Distillery  will be offering tasters and are creating a special cocktail just for the event (along with running their masterclasses - see above).

Other offerings include KP Paper Cuts who will be demonstrating papercutting and basic origami from their stall - you will be able to buy their kits to try at home.  At Loopy Koopers stand you can try your hand at colouring some of her giant colouring posters.

Food & Drink

So anyone who knows Thought Foundation will know they do ace food! They make all their delicious dishes from scratch in the Brain Food Kitchen. You just can't beat their wholesome, colourful goodies or their infamous homemade cakes.  The kitchen will be open on the night serving a pop up menu of tasty goodness including free from and vegan options. Thought Foundation will also have a small stall offering drinks and snacks.

Goody Bags

Goody bags proved a total hit at the last market - there was a queue of indie business loving folk round the block waiting to get in & bag theirs! We understand that some folks have to work on a Saturday and can't make it to the start of the market. This time we will be doing two drops - giving out 20 goody bags to the first 20 people through the door at 5pm and again at 8pm; be kind to each other - no queue jumping please.  Here are a few examples of the type of thing you might expect to get in a goody bag - it's no wonder people are keen to grab one eh!

Live Music

We are pleased to announce that Sam Slatcher will be providing the live music across the night. Sam Slatcher is a folk singer-songwriter living in Durham and we can't wait for his tunes to provide a gorgeous backdrop for the event.
